Once again we welcome to the English Riviera , the
Torbay Easter Hockey Festival.
Taking place at various pitches across the English
Riviera this yearly event is a great way to dust of
those winter cobwebs and get out in the fresh air!
Torbay Easter Hockey Festival is this year celebrating
it's 62nd Anniversary and continues with the generous
support of Torbay Council. They welcome hockey players
both old and new to join together in this splendid
scenic location to make this a very memorable event for
everyone.

will challenge the old and engage their opposition with
skill and determination. Our focus has always been on
excellent competitive hockey played with true
sportsmanship. All games are played on astro pitches
with all facilities.
There are two trophies to be won: The Bill Stickles Cup
- for the most goals scored and our Fair Play Award -
The Redcliffe Cup offering challenges for all teams.

world’s most widely-read crime writer, Dame Agatha
Christie.
Headlining the 2012 festival will be Colin Dexter,

Shaun Evans, in Oxford in 1965.
Also confirmed in the line up so far is Sophie Hannah,

BMAD Motorbike Festival - Paignton -
May Bank Holiday and every Wednesday night through
summer.
It started in 2002 with an idea by the founders of
Bikers Make A Difference - BMAD, Kelvin and Jane
Halloran. That idea was to have a social gathering of
bikers on Paignton Seafront in Devon. He wanted to raise
money for charity and have a good time as well. Which is
exactly what has happened.
Paignton Bike Night finally saw its birth in 2003 and
has gone on to become the longest running largest
regular social gathering of bikers in the South West of
England.
Each year on Paignton Seafront we regularly have a mile
of bikes parked side by side every Wednesday evening
from May to Sept.

2012 Olympic Torch Relay
As part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route,
torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame through
Paignton and Torquay on Sunday 20 May 2012.
A special welcome will be hosted on behalf of the
surrounding communities and residents are invited to
share in the excitement the relay will bring and
celebrate the achievements of the Torchbearers on day
two of its historic journey.
Paignton and Torquay are two of over 1,000 villages,
towns and cities announced by the London Organising
Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG)
through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by
Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay,
which is presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and
Samsung.
Torbay has strong links with the Olympics with the
sailing events of the 1948 Summer Olympics being held in
Torquay. The Olympic flame was brought from London to
Torre Abbey Meadows, and the closing ceremony was
observed by over 10,000 spectators.
The Olympic Torch Relay will shine a real spotlight on
the Bay and we are looking forward to giving it a
memorable welcome.

Geopark Festival
When you think of the English Riviera, you probably
don’t imagine Sahara-like deserts or sabre-toothed

The annual Geopark Festival offers holiday makers the

Torbay Week
Torbay Week is fast proving to be one of the most
popular regattas on the south coast.
Sailors of all classes flock to the English Riviera,
ready to pit their wits and skills against each other in
exciting races, and the event regularly attracts
national and international sailing championships.
There are plenty of vantage points around the bay,
giving everyone the chance to see seamanship at its
best.Visiting sailors are warmly welcomed into the yacht
and sailing clubs at Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and
Babbacombe with the clubs providing post-race
entertainment throughout the week.
The challenges end with the traditional Passage Race to
Dartmouth, ready for the Dartmouth Regatta the following
week. The great thing for visitors is that, whether
you’re a boating fanatic or a real land-lubber, there’s
as much going on onshore as there is on the waves, for
Torbay Week coincides with the Torbay Royal Regatta.

Torbay Royal Regatta
The Torbay Royal Regatta is now in its 199th year! It is
one of the most popular events on the English Riviera
and great fun for all the family, and it will keep you
coming back, year after year. The regatta is a fantastic
chance for the whole family to enjoy themselves without
having to take out a second mortgage to pay for it. It’s
affordable, friendly and brilliant fun!
While the sailing takes place out to sea during the
coinciding Torbay Week championships, the action’s
mainly onshore during the regatta. There’s a fun fair on
Torquay seafront, a 10K road race, a fabulous firework
display and a performance from regatta favourites the

Agatha Christie Festival
Each year, the English Riviera transforms itself into
the murder mystery capital of the country, with ladies
and gents in their period finery immersing themselves in
tea parties, theatre, dinners on steam trains and
vintage bus tours. Why? For the annual Agatha Christie
Festival in honour of the Queen of Crime, who was born
in Torquay in 1890.
The festival is a fabulous occasion for fans from all
over the world to congregate and celebrate Dame Agatha
Christie’s life and times. Round every corner there is a
murder mystery: on steam trains, in spooky country inns,
and in rambling seaside pubs. You’ll also find
competitions, book launches, exclusive events and even a
birthday fireworks display. The official Agatha Christie
Theatre Company perform their latest production at the
Princess Theatre (2012 is Murder on the Nile) and Poirot
is ever on-hand should there be a case or two to solve.

Cockington Apple Day2012
Cockington’s popular October Food & Crafts Festival -
Apple Day - will celebrate for the 20th year on Sunday
14th October, showcasing the best in local foods,
handmade crafts, apple varieties – and ciders of
course!National Apple Day was founded by London charity
Common Ground in 1990. The charity wanted to preserve
and raise awareness of the alarming rate at which
orchards were disappearing, along with the local
varieties, the recipes, the songs, stories, pruning and
wassailing. Of the 6,000 varieties of apple once grown
in Britain, only nine are now readily available in the
supermarkets. Modern farming methods, rapid transport
and the import of cheap fruit from abroad along with new
methods of horticultural production and storage, as well
as new building and development, have lead the removal
of many old orchards. Devon alone has lost 90% of its
total orchards since 1965. Apple Day is an annual
celebration of this wonderful diversity of apples and a
way of conserving traditional orchards, fruit and
traditions.
Apple Day is one of Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust's
biggest fundraising events and all monies raised are
ploughed back into conservation work across 1750 acres
of green sites in Torbay including Berry Head National
Nature Reserve, Cockington Country Park and Occombe
Farm.
